GPS Caddie: Impress Your Foursome!

Posted in GPS Caddie  by admin
August 6th, 2008

Those of us who share a passion for improving our golf game, are
always on the lookout for a secret weapon. A piece of new technology
that will save us valuable strokes.

Well listen up golfers! Whether you’re a duffer, or a scratch
semi-pro, modern technology has provided us with a new device
that will make your foursome think you’ve been taking lessons.

A GPS Caddie or Golf GPS, is a handheld global posiitoning
system specifically designed for the golf course.
These devices will provide you with golf course maps of your
favorite track, and are used to determine distances between you
and important targets and hazards.

Golf GPS devices have become so popular in the
last couple of years than many of the best golf courses have had
them installed into their golf riding carts.
They are rugged, water resistant, and typically run on a couple
of AA batteries with an AC charger.

There are several different manufacturers and models of Golf GPS
units; Garmin Golflogix, Sky Caddie, iGolf GPS Caddie, and Golf
Buddy, just to name a few.

One of my very favorite units is the Garmin Golflogix 8.
This new model for 2008 is cutting edge technology which gives you
access to over 15,000 golf courses world wide. The Golflogix 8
comes with lots of new technical goodies but the feature I like
the best is the ability to immediately show the distance of your
last shot.

Imagine; Your GPS Caddie tells you how far the front of the green
is, and the distance to the bunker guarding the left front corner of the
green. You take your shot on this long par 3, and come up short.
Your Garmin Golflogix 8 shows you the distance of the shot you
just took. No more guessing your 6 iron distance for your next
shot!

If you really want to impress your foursome, a GPS Caddie is
what you’ve been waiting for.

How a Golf GPS Unit Can Help You On The Course

Posted in Golf GPS  by admin

By: Corbin Newlyn

A golfer’s most challenging aspect of the game is judging the distances of various parts of the golf course. In addition to the importance of knowing how far you are from the hole, it is also important to know the distances of different parts of a fairway are as well as managing your game effectively. A golf GPS unit can give you an advantage in in this regard.

For instance, if you are standing in the middle of a fairway, you may see a marker that tells you you are 150 yards to the middle of the green. However, if there is a water hazard in front of the green, it will help to know how far you have to hit the ball to at least clear the lake or how far it is to the front of the lake to keep your ball from getting wet. With a Golf GPS unit that contains that particular course information you are able to better determine which club to use under which circumstance.

Naturally, a golf GPS unit will only be of use if a golfer is any good at the game. Knowing you are standing 136.2 yards from the center of the green will not help you hit the ball straight or keep it from flying into the water or sand trap on either side of the green. However, a golf GPS unit can help you find out how far into the woods your ball penetrated.

Practically Any Golf Course You Can Imagine Is at Your Fingertips

The majority of the time, you can hook your golf GPS unit into your computer and by signing up with a service you can download just about every golf course in the country, making available to you as many golf course maps as your golf GPS system will hold at any one time. So when you are on the course playing one of your games, you can take out your golf GPS unit and have all the information about the course you are on available to you in an instant.

Maybe you are on the green that has a hard dogleg, and your hoping not to over drive the corner and make it more difficult to hit next shot towards the green. By using your golf GPS unit, you will be able to closely estimate which club to use off the tee to get your ball to the middle of the fairway or to either side, which will give you the best possible vantage point for your next stroke.

Instead of having a professional golfers walk the course before a professional match begins, making calculations and notes on numerous distances for them to use during a match, many professional golfers have begun to take advantage of the information provided from their golf GPS unit to stay on top of their position.

What GPS can I buy that I could use both in car and on the golf course?

Posted in Golf GPS  by admin
August 20th, 2008

I am looking to buy my fiancee a GPS for her birthday. We also love golf and have considered getting a GPS for golfing alone. That said, is there a GPS out there that could double as a "most of the time" in-car GPS system and then could get pulled easily from the car and put into our golf cart at the course? Price is not a huge object (though I don't have an infinite budget). The main feature is the in-car GPS, but I would love to get one that could be used on the course as well with pretty widerange course map support. Thanks in advance!!!

Any of the small Garmin line should work for you. They average from $399.00 to about $1,295.00 depending on the programs and features ordered.

Do any of you use a GPS for golf and which do you think are the best?

Posted in Golf GPS  by admin
August 20th, 2008

I am doing some research on GPS and was wondering if anybody can tell me which they think are the best models and why. What do you like about them and what do you dislike?
Any help would be appreciated.

I do not use a gps but I had heard that the igolf neo is passing up sky caddie. the neo is cheaper, smaller, and lighter. Also when you subscribe for all your courses, you can keep all the courses that you download if you decide not keep on paying for your subscription with the i golf neo. As for the sky caddie you will lose all your downloaded courses. which I think that is weak……..So I heard.
